The SEEDS Chapter program was created by the Ecological Society of America and aims to create undergraduate student chapters at universities across the nation in order to increase student interest and engagement with conservation efforts.
According to SEEDS’ chapter handbook the chapter engagement program aims to:
Increase students’ understanding of ecological systems and functions
Educate students about the wide spectrum of ecology and environmental science careers
Organize local or regional field explorations and community-oriented activities
Develop student’s leadership skills
Expand students’ personal and professional contacts in the field.
ESA-SEEDS at UNC-CH will host a variety of ecological speakers from different backgrounds. Additionally, there will be study resources, social events, and volunteer opportunities available for all active members. Active members will also have increased access to research opportunities offered through ESA.
