UNC Special Olympics is a student organization dedicated to volunteerism and disability inclusion through Unified Sports, where individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities play sports together. Our mission is to promote inclusion, advocacy, leadership, and social impact by building meaningful relationships through athletics at UNC-Chapel Hill and in the surrounding community.

Throughout the year, we host major Special Olympics events, including two flagship Unified Sports Showcases. In the fall, we compete against NC State in a Flag Football Showcase, and in the spring, we face Duke in a Basketball Showcase. This year’s basketball showcase will take place in Carmichael Arena, with expected appearances from ESPN College GameDay, the UNC cheerleaders and band, and strong student attendance… making it one of the largest inclusive sporting events on campus!

UNC Special Olympics also runs Unified Sports leagues year-round, including flag football and kickball through Intramural Sports and Campus Recreation, as well as monthly bowling events organized by our club. In addition, we partner with UNC varsity teams, Special Olympics Orange County, and loca
