Spare Change to Spare Lives

Spare Change to Spare Lives (SCTSL) is dedicated to making service accessible, flexible, and meaningful for every Tar Heel. Our aim is to bridge the gap between wanting to help and knowing how to help . We have already shown our capability by turning small moments of free time into lasting community impact during the last two months.

We believe everyone has something to give. These things are things, such as, time, ideas, skills, or even literal spare change. Our mission is to provide clear and structured ways for students to contribute with the least amount of commitment possible. Through things such as Spare Tracks, Monthly Projects, and weekly Spare Change Days in The Pit, we’ve been connecting students with service opportunities that fits their, already, tight schedule.

Members can earn distinctions such as Spare Scholar, Spare Ambassador, and Spare Research Scholar by completing volunteer hours, mentored projects, and ethical research that integrate service with academic and professional growth.

SCTSL functions on a facilitative framework, which is a structure that let’s us mobilize student’s free time, rather than demanding it. Our model transforms small contributions
