On November 12, 1922, seven illustrious women founded Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since that day, Sigma Gamma Rho has achieved far-reaching influence on an international scale with chapters located in the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe. Members of the sorority maintain the highest standards of sisterhood, service, and scholarship. The sorority's motto, "Greater Service, Greater Progress" is evidenced by a variety of projects undertaken to improve communities at the local, regional, and international levels. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the young women of the Lambda Psi Chapter have perpetuated Sigma Gamma Rho's legacy since November 16, 1990. From the chapter's inception, its members have exemplified the sorority's principles by maintaining an admirable GPA while organizing vital community initiatives. On all levels, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, sets the standard for excellence.
