The Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi was established in 1889 here in Chapel Hill. From the initial pledge class to the current day, our chapter has been dedicated to three primary principles: friendship, justice, and learning. Since 1924, the Sigma Chi house has been centrally located at 102 Fraternity Court, a house that has seen Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, Tar Heel and NFL quarterback T.J. Yates, NBA personality Rob Perez, and many other notable brothers pass through it. In accordance with the Spirit of Sigma Chi that calls for acceptance of all men based on character and regardless of background, our chapter makes a conscious effort to recruit quality out-of-state students in addition to North Carolinians. We currently have active brothers from California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, as well as Canada. Our two main philanthropic initiatives are Habitat for Humanity and Sigma Chi Derby Days, a week-long event benefiting local charity Note in the Pocket.
