The mission of the Program on Integrative Medicine (PIM) is to enhance the public’s health and to improve the effectiveness and safety of healthcare through the appropriate integration of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with mainstream healthcare. Areas of emphasis include research, education, clinical practice, and community collaboration. PIM serves UNC faculty, staff, students, health professionals, and the public throughout the state. PIM is funded by the state of North Carolina and federal and private foundation grants. The team at PIM is dedicated to implementing evidence-based education and research activities in complementary and alternative therapeutic modalities and integrative healthcare, as well as promoting the integration of effective therapies into clinical practice. The Program on Integrative Medicine/PM&R is known nationwide for its research, education, and research-related training in complementary and integrative medicine. PIM faculty, staff, and affiliates are experienced in NIH-supported and DoD-supported research, including clinical trials.
