The HOSA chapter of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was founded on Monday, December 7, 2009. UNC-Chapel Hill HOSA is an active local association of North Carolina HOSA; therefore, having association with the national HOSA organization. HOSA's two-fold mission is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health community. HOSA's mission is especially critical when considering the acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry. Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily reaching over 131,000 members through 47 chartered HOSA State Associations and approximately 3,200 secondary and postsecondary/collegiate chapters in this past year. North Carolina HOSA has over 9,000 members and is honored to be the fourth largest state association of HOSA. HOSA spreads awareness of pressing health care issues and much more. With HOSA, students are able to learn and gain so much from competitive events, community service projects, health education projects and leadership positions
