AMWHO is an authentic simulation of the World Health Assembly, the sole decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). Students assume the roles of a variety of actors and engage in debates and discussions on global health challenges.
At conferences, undergraduate and graduate students will assume the roles of WHO ambassadors, non-governmental organization members, media correspondents, or industry representatives. In regional blocs, delegates debate, write, and ultimately vote on a resolution that aims to address the global public health challenge and theme of the conference. If the resolution passes, it will go to plenary, where all of the regional blocs come together to debate and vote again on each region’s resolutions. Final resolutions that pass will be sent to the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Beyond debate, AMWHO at UNC is an amazing opportunity to hear from experts in global public health! Throughout the conference, students will have access to renowned professors from the Gillings School of Global Public Health and public health professionals from the Triangle from a wide variety of disciplines.
