Chess at Carolina's goal is to bring together all those interested in playing chess! We are welcoming of all skill levels, and encourage beginners to join and participate. There is no minimum skill level to join or compete!
There is no membership fee.
We enable members to compete at formally organized tournaments or at the intercollegiate level.
Our intended audience, the students of UNC Chapel Hill, will gain access to weekly meetings at the chess club to socialize and enjoy the game! From holding regular free-play chess events to simultaneous exhibitions to lessons, there will be numerous opportunities for new chess players to grasp a better understanding of the game while giving existing players the chance to increase their playing strength. Ultimately, we travel as a team to 2-3 tournaments per semester. The goal is to attract beginners to masters and grow the chess community on the Chapel Hill campus!
