Carolina Kickoff

For over seventy-five years, the Campus Y has sponsored Carolina Kickoff (CK) as an informal introduction to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 175 incoming first-year students. Each year, 40 counselors endeavor to paint a total picture of campus life in just three days, introducing students to social justice and student life at Carolina. University officials such as the Student Body President and representatives from the Campus Y Executive board offer advice on how to best take advantage of the school’s resources and new initiatives.

We invite members of career services and counseling and wellness, to provide tips on how to be a successful student at UNC. Students have the opportunity to sign up for student organizations, watch performances from some of Carolina’s best student groups, and learn cheers for UNC sporting events. Before camp starts, campers will get to move into their dorms early (i.e. before anyone else!).

Throughout the year, CK plans for camp by contacting speakers, raising funds, and finalizing camp programs. Counselors also organize events to help raise money for camp and spread awareness about social justice issues. One of our main initiati
