The organization will serve as a medium through which interested students can network with practicing interventional radiologists and conduct academic research to explore their interests and further their knowledge of this increasingly prominent field of medicine. The VIR interest group will also be a conduit for students to access up to date information, career advice and guidance from experts in the field of Interventional Radiology. In an effort to foster intellectual growth, the VIR group will host, encourage and facilitate discussions that examine peer-review articles featuring current and future trends in VIR and medicine at large. The VIR group will have leadership positions within the organization occupied by current UNC School of Medicine Students. By doing so, students will be able to develop and hone leadership qualities that are necessary to become excellent physicians and respectable members of the community. Due to advances in technology, the field of Interventional Radiology is now becoming an internationally recognized and practiced specialty.
