The UNC Tar Heels men’s ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team at the Chapel Hill campus of the University of North Carolina. UNC Ice Hockey is a member of the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL) and the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I. The team was founded in 1974 and is currently under the leadership of Head Coach Steve Rice. The Tar Heels have won the ACCHL’s Admiral’s Cup once in 2015 and, most recently, placed second in 2022 and 2023. The Tar Heels qualified for ACHA Southeast Regionals for the first time in team history for the 2021-22 season. In the 2024-25 season, the team qualified for ACHA Southeast Regionals for the 4th consecutive season. In the 2025-26 season, the team will be making the jump from ACHA Division II to ACHA Division I, the 3rd highest level of college hockey in the United States.
